Islamabad: Former Pakistan Army Chief Qamar Javed Bajwa has passed away after suffering severe head injuries, according to several media reports.

The 65-year-old former general had been reportedly admitted to Rawalpindi Military Hospital earlier this year after slipping and falling in his washroom. The incident, which took place in February 2026, left him with multiple head injuries.

Hospital and family sources had earlier confirmed that he was rushed to the hospital immediately after the fall. Doctors performed a major surgery soon after his admission, and he was kept under close watch in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). At the time, hospital officials had said the surgery was successful, but his recovery depended on how his condition improved over the following days. Medical teams were monitoring him closely due to the seriousness of the injuries.

Bajwa served as Pakistan’s Army Chief from 2016 to 2022 and remained an influential figure in the country even after his retirement.
