
Srinagar, Apr 30: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Kashmir of the Crime Branch J&K has submitted a chargesheet against a man for fraudulently obtaining a large sum of money from victims by falsely promising JDA land in Jammu and arranging government jobs, officials said on Thursday.
In a statement, a EOW spokesperson said, “The Economic Offences Wing Kashmir (EOW) of Crime Branch J&K submitted a chargesheet in case FIR No. 84/2022 under Section 420 RPC against Bashir Ahmad Bhat S/o Abdul Gani Bhat R/o Astanpora, Tailbal Hazratbal Srinagar before the Hon’ble court of Judge Small Causes Srinagar.”
While providing key details opertaing to the case, he said, in January 2019, Bashir Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Asthanpora Tailbal, Srinagar, was accused of fraudulently obtaining a large sum of money from the complainants. He promised to provide JDA land in Jammu and arrange government jobs for the relatives of the complainants. However, he failed to deliver the land and fulfil his job promises.
Subsequently, the spokesperson said, an investigation was launched, which revealed that Bashir Ahmad Bhat had intentionally deceived the complainants and dishonestly obtained their money through false assurances. The evidence gathered confirmed the commission of cheating under Section 420 RPC. Accordingly, a chargesheet was filed before the Hon’ble Court for judicial adjudication.
Police advised general public to remain vigilant against economic fraudsters and report any such incidents directly to SSP EOW Kashmir (Crime Branch J&K) Shri Abdul Waheed Shah.
