SRINAGAR: A cold wave continued to prevail across the Kashmir region as minimum temperatures remained below the freezing point in most areas.

According to data compiled by Kashmir Weather, Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of minus 2.4 degrees Celsius, while colder conditions prevailed in south and north Kashmir, with Qazigund and Kupwara registering minus 3.6°C and minus 3.7°C, respectively. Tourist resorts Pahalgam and Gulmarg also witnessed sub-zero temperatures at minus 3.4°C. Shopian and Pulwama emerged as the coldest locations in the Valley, recording minus 5.2°C and minus 6.5°C.

Other areas, including Anantnag and Zethan Rafiabad, recorded minimum temperatures of minus 3.9°C and minus 4.5°C, while Ganderbal and Kulgam remained comparatively warmer at minus 1.4°C and minus 1.6°C.

In the Jammu region, several towns experienced near-freezing conditions. Bhaderwah recorded minus 1.2°C, while Samba, Rajouri and Udhampur saw minimums of 0.7°C, 0.8°C and 1.2°C, respectively. Jammu city recorded 3.4°C, Katra 5.0°C and Kishtwar 6.1°C.

Ladakh continued to reel under extreme cold, with Hanle recording the lowest temperature at minus 15.0°C. Leh and Kargil reported minimums of minus 10.8°C and minus 9.3°C, while Nubra Valley recorded minus 8.4°C.

Officials have advised residents, particularly those in higher reaches, to take adequate precautions as the cold wave is expected to persist in the coming days. Weather across Jammu and Kashmir has remained largely dry during Chillai Kalan, the harshest 40-day winter period that began on December 21.
