
Srinagar, May 05: The Economic Offences Wing Kashmir of Crime Branch Kashmir has arrested a government employee in connection with an alleged fraud in the recruitment of a Health Educator.
According to the statement issued here, the action was taken in connection with FIR No. 19/2017 registered under Sections 420, 467, 468 and 471 of the Ranbir Penal Code at Police Station Crime Branch Kashmir, now designated as EOW Kashmir.
The statement said that Shahnawaz Ahmad Mir, a Senior Assistant in the Health Department and a resident of Tankipora Shaheed Gunj Srinagar, was taken into custody for his alleged role in the case.
The investigation was initiated following a communication from the Deputy Director Health Services Kashmir, which indicated that one Bashir Ahmad Sofi of Mazhama Budgam had fraudulently secured appointment as a Health Educator by using forged transfer orders and a fabricated Last Pay Certificate.
“During the course of investigation, it surfaced that the accused had illegally entered government service at Block Sheeri Baramulla and subsequently drew salary, thereby causing wrongful loss to the state exchequer,” the statement said.
It further said that Shahnawaz Ahmad Mir is suspected to be involved in multiple similar cases, some of which are under investigation while others have already been charge-sheeted.
Further investigation in the case is ongoing, the statement added.
