CBI arrests cop red-handed while accepting Rs 10,000 bribe; SHO Bishnah attached

JAMMU, Apr 4: The Anti-Corruption Wing of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today arrested a cop posted at Police Station Bishnah red-handed while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000.

Taking serious note of the incident, authorities have attached SHO Bishnah, Rakesh Singh Jamwal, to the District Police Lines (DPL) Jammu and posted Inspector Deepak Thakur as the new SHO.

As per police sources, the accused cop, identified as Head Constable Som Dutt allegedly demanded Rs 20,000 from one Kewal Krishan son of Sansar Chand of Lower Canal, Bishnah, in a theft case being investigated by the former.
After negotiations, sources said, he settled at Rs 10,000 as the bribe amount.

Unwilling to pay the amount, he approached CBI, they said, adding that accordingly a trap was laid and the accused Head Constable was arrested red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe within the premises of the Police Station Bishnah.

Post arrest, he was taken to CBI Headquarters in Jammu, where he is being investigated further.
