Jammu: Apni Party today celebrated Labour Day at its party office in Gandhi Nagar, Jammu district of Jammu and Kashmir.
According to a press release, the function was chaired by Provincial President, Jammu, and former Minister, S. Manjit Singh. It was organised by Provincial Secretary and President of the Trade Union, Ajaz Kazmi.
While speaking on the occasion, former Minister S. Manjit Singh stressed the need for the implementation of the Minimum Wages Act in Jammu and Kashmir to protect the rights of the working class.
He said that the government must ensure the protection of employment policies for local youth in the industrial sector of Jammu and Kashmir.
“The industrial units reportedly engage workers on a daily basis through contractors instead of providing them direct and permanent employment,” he said.
He further stated that complaints have surfaced regarding skilled jobs being offered to people from outside Jammu and Kashmir, forcing local youth to migrate elsewhere in search of employment.
He added that the industrial sector receives incentives and loan waivers from the government to generate employment for youth; however, their role needs to be scrutinized.
Meanwhile, Ajaz Kazmi also addressed the leaders and workers, highlighting the contribution of the working class to the development and economic activities of Jammu and Kashmir.
Kazmi further expressed concern over the plight of daily wagers, benefits to their next of kins who lost lives accidentally while performing duty and minimum wage act in their favour.
