AIIMS Jammu to establish Global Centre for AI in Healthcare: Executive Director

Jammu, Dec 28: All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Jammu is planning to establish a “Global Centre for Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Healthcare”, aimed at leveraging cutting-edge technologies to enhance patient care, research and medical education.

Executive Director and CEO, AIIMS Jammu, Prof (Dr) Shakti Gupta revealed it, during his annual media interaction.

“Besides it, the Centres of Excellence in Oncology, Trauma Sciences, Ophthalmology, Nursing, Telemedicine, Robotics and Predictive Medicine, along with an advanced blood centre, cath lab, sports complex, and satellite centres including the Comprehensive Rural Health Services Unit (CRHSU) at Basohli also form part of the visionary roadmap, AIIMS Jammu, looking ahead, has chalked out for itself,” Dr Gupta shared in the interaction held at AIIMS Jammu on Saturday, December 27, 2025.

Cardiac surgeries, according to Dr Gupta, would also be started soon as a regular feature in the Institute, which registered 1400-1600 daily footfall (of patients) on the whole from 28 states while the emergency wing recorded 60 to 80 patients almost on a daily basis.

With regard to queries about strengthening tertiary healthcare delivery, the Executive Director stated that the Institute operationalised Super Specialty departments across multiple disciplines during the last one year.

“Super specialty services are now available in Endocrinology, Paediatric Surgery, Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery (CTVS), Nephrology, Neurosurgery, Neurology, Urology, Burns and Plastic Surgery, Surgical Gastroenterology, Medical Gastroenterology, Neonatology, Pulmonary Medicine, Surgical Oncology and Cardiology,” he said.

Highlighting innovation and advanced care, Prof Gupta stated that AIIMS Jammu housed the country’s only Centre for Advanced Genomics and Precision Medicine among all AIIMS, enabling high-end genomic testing within the country.

“The expanding Oncology Unit now offers chemotherapy, radiation therapy and immunotherapy, bringing comprehensive cancer care closer to patients. The advanced biochemistry laboratory, equipped with waterless dry chemistry technology, ensures high-volume, rapid and accurate diagnostic reporting. Patient-centric initiatives such as the AIIMS Indoor Navigation App, Patient Care Manager and Rogi Sahayak Mitra system, Parikrama Seva e-carts, Swasthya App and dedicated AYUSH screening further enhance patient convenience and accessibility,” Dr Gupta informed.
