
SRINAGAR: Acting on a complaint, the Anti-Corruption Bureau, Jammu and Kashmir, on Saturday said it has arrested a Patwari from Budgam for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 out of a demanded amount of Rs 30,000 for the issuance of a revenue extract and bank lien certificate.
According to a statement, the Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau received a written complaint wherein the complainant alleged that he had applied before the concerned revenue authorities for the issuance of a revenue extract and bank lien certificate for a property situated at Rakh Soothu BK Pora for a bank guarantee. For obtaining these documents, he approached the concerned Patwari of Halqa Rakh Soothu, namely Riyaz Ahmad Khan, but instead of processing the case in a due manner, the Patwari allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 30,000 before preparing and providing the required documents.
The statement reads that the complainant, stating that he is against corruption, approached ACB Srinagar seeking legal action against the accused official. On receipt of the complaint, discreet verification was conducted, which confirmed the demand for a bribe by the accused public servant.
“Accordingly, Case FIR No. 02/2026 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, was registered at Police Station ACB Srinagar, and an investigation was taken up. During the course of investigation, a trap team was constituted, which laid a successful trap and caught the accused, Riyaz Ahmad Khan, Patwari Halqa Rakh Soothu, Budgam, red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe amount of Rs 10,000 from the complainant.”
The statement further reads that after completing all necessary medico-legal formalities, the accused public servant was taken into custody. Further investigation is underway. (KNO)
