
SRINAGAR: The Anti-Corruption Bureau Jammu and Kashmir on Friday arrested a head constable in Srinagar for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe in connection with an official matter.
The accused was apprehended during a trap operation laid in the Batamaloo area of Srinagar following a complaint by a local resident.
According to officials, the complainant had alleged that the policeman was seeking illegal gratification. Acting on the complaint, the ACB team set up a trap and caught the accused while allegedly accepting Rs 5,000 in cash along with a cheque of Rs 35,000.
The amount was recovered on the spot in the presence of independent witnesses, officials said.
A case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act, and further investigation is underway. [KNT]
