SRINAGAR: After over 15 years of dedicated service, GN Var, the long-serving President of the Private Schools’ Association of Jammu and Kashmir (PSAJK), on Sunday announced his retirement, marking the end of a defining chapter in the region’s private education sector.
Var’s decision, driven by personal reasons and new professional commitments, brought an emotional close to a tenure widely credited with unifying private institutions, improving educational standards, and securing recognition for the sector at both state and national levels.
During an emotional gathering attended by members of the Executive Council and prominent educationists, speakers hailed Var as a “true legend of education,” lauding his leadership during challenging times when private schools faced regulatory and operational hurdles.
Over the years, Var was instrumental in resolving thousands of issues concerning schools, teachers, and students, while championing reforms for fair regulation and policy stability. His stewardship elevated the standing and credibility of PSAJK across Jammu and Kashmir.
Chief Organiser of PSAJK, Shah Gulzar, said Var’s tireless efforts had been “pivotal in promoting the private school sector and advancing the cause of quality education.” He added that the association’s future leaders would build on the strong foundation laid by Var.
In his farewell address, Var expressed confidence in the association’s continued growth, stating, “Leadership is about creating more leaders. I have complete faith that PSAJK will continue to safeguard the interests of private schools with unity, integrity and dedication.”
Following his retirement, the association appointed Nazar-ul-Islam Baba as the Adhoc President for a three-month term to oversee the conduct of free and fair elections.
Members of PSAJK extended their gratitude to Var for his visionary leadership and lasting contributions, wishing him good health and success in his future endeavours.
