
SRINAGAR: Jammu Kashmir Police have seized 23 vehicles engaged in the unlawful transportation of minerals across Pulwama, Ganderbal and Shopian districts, officials said on Friday.
In Pulwama, six tippers were intercepted. Two vehicles, bearing registration numbers JK08G-6301 and JK13E-0314, were seized by Police Post Rahmoo, while four more — JK13J-2378, JK01AN-8100, JK01AP-9093 and JK04B-8285 — were confiscated by Police Station Pulwama.
A larger operation was conducted in Ganderbal, where police registered three FIRs and seized 13 vehicles, including nine tippers, two Tata Mobiles and two tractors. The vehicles, loaded with illegally extracted minerals from Nallah Sindh, were intercepted within the jurisdictions of Police Stations Ganderbal, Safapora and Gund, as well as Police Post Nagbal. The registration numbers include JK05B-9529, JK01AF-0052, JK01T-1471, JK13C-8090, JK01J-9411, JK09C-5028, JK15C-0729, JK18-1190, JK01AX-1953, PB5AX-7928, JK16B-9334 and JK01R-3970. Several accused persons were also apprehended in connection with the cases.
In Shopian, four dumpers were seized for involvement in illegal mining. Police Post Turkwangam intercepted two vehicles, JK13J-6277 and JK13D-7161, while Police Station Shopian seized two more, JK13K-1041 and JK13J-7755.
All cases have been registered under relevant provisions of law and investigations have been initiated. Police stated that strict action will be taken against those involved in unlawful mining activities.
Reiterating its resolve to protect natural resources, Jammu and Kashmir Police urged citizens to cooperate by reporting illegal mining, assuring confidentiality of informants and warning that violators will face stringent legal consequences.
