Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Police in Handwara have successfully solved a blind hit-and-run case reported earlier this month, leading to the arrest of the accused driver and seizure of the vehicle involved.

“On September 12, 2025, a pedestrian identified as Ab. Rehman Wani, son of Habib Ullah Wani, resident of Gund Kuhroo, was critically injured after being hit by an unknown vehicle at Gund Kuhroo,” officials said. “The victim was shifted to GMC Handwara and later referred to SKIMS Soura, Srinagar, where he succumbed to his injuries.”

“Following the incident, Police Station Handwara registered FIR No. 209/2025 and launched an investigation following which a team headed by Incharge Police Post Langate, PSI Rayees Ahmed, pursued the leads relentlessly”, said the official adding, “after sustained efforts, the accused driver was traced and arrested, while the vehicle bearing registration number JK09C 8246 was seized.”

SSP Handwara Mushtaq Ahmad Chaudhary has in the meantime reaffirmed that police will continue to act firmly against individuals endangering public lives through any means’ and type of reckless behavior.
