Lolab (Kupwara): As part of the nationwide Seva Pakhwada observance, Medical Block Sogam on Saturday organised a Mega Health Awareness Camp at NTPHC Khurhama Lolab under the Union Government’s flagship initiative Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar Abhiyan.
Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Shrikant Balasaheb Suse, who attended the event as chief guest in his speech underlined the government’s commitment to ensuring equitable healthcare access in every corner of the district. “Women’s health is the foundation of a strong family and a progressive society. Initiatives like these bring vital services to our doorstep and help us empower communities from the ground up,” he said.
The DC further urged the community to take advantage of the facilities being created under the campaign. “Awareness is as important as treatment. I encourage every woman and family to prioritise preventive care, regular check-ups, and to break the hesitation around discussing health issues,” he added.
On the occasion, the DC hailed the Health Department for taking the lead in organising the camp and acknowledged the benevolent support of the Indian Army. He also thanked other line departments for their active assistance in ensuring the successful conduct of the ongoing events under the Abhiyan.
The event also witnessed the presence of DDC Vice Chairman Haji Farooq Mir, SDM Lolab Mudasir Ahmad, CMO Kupwara Masrat Iqbal, BMO Sogam Dr. Javed Rasool, BDO Wavoora Ab Rashid, DySP Lolab Javid Ahmad, Tehsildar Lalpora Masroor Gayas, CDPO Wavoora Abdul Qayoom Wani, SHO Lalpora Showkat Ahmad Darzi, along with Army’s Khurhama Company Commander Major Abhishek Arya, RMO 28 RR Captain Baruthi.G, Medical Assistant 28 RR Venkat Sai and Police officials, health workers, and community representatives.
The local women and adolescent girls actively participated in the camp, availing free medical check-ups, counselling sessions, and guidance on nutrition, hygiene, maternal and reproductive health. Informational material was also distributed to promote regular screenings and break the stigma surrounding women’s health issues.
Pertinent to mention here that the camp was organised with the collaborative support of the Health Department, ICDS, Ayush, Indian Army and J&K Police.
The Health Department, Ayush, CSC, PDD and several others had erected stalls at the venue in a bid to disseminate information about various public welfare schemes among the attendees.
The locals widely appreciated the outreach programme, noting its importance for remote areas like Lolab where healthcare facilities are limited. “These initiatives build awareness and give us confidence to take charge of our health and our families’ well-being,” said a woman attendee, adding, “we hope that similar drives will be held regularly to sustain the momentum of health awareness in rural Kashmir.”
