
SRINAGAR: Dr Nisar Ahmad Mir today assumed charge as Registrar of the Central University of Kashmir (CUKashmir), with the university leadership hailing his appointment as a step towards ushering in reforms and strengthening the institution’s academic and administrative profile.
Welcoming him, Vice-Chancellor Prof A Ravinder Nath described Dr Mir’s joining as the beginning of a new chapter in the university’s journey. He said the university was looking forward to entering an era of reform and academic distinction, enhancing its place among the country’s emerging centres of learning and innovation. Dean Academic Affairs Prof Shahid Rasool, Controller of Examinations and Professor of Education Prof C Naseema, along with senior administrative functionaries, also extended their greetings.
After taking charge, Dr Nisar Ahmad Mir said sincerity, professional ethics, and dedication would be the guiding principles of his tenure. “With collective effort, we can transform CUKashmir into an institution par excellence. I appeal to every member of this university family to contribute their full potential in this journey of growth and excellence. The goal is to make CUKashmir not only a hub of knowledge but also an institution of national and international repute,” he said.
According to the university statement, Dr Mir is a scholar of Sociology with an MPhil and PhD to his credit and brings with him over two decades of experience in teaching, research, and academic leadership. He has published 35 research papers, edited four books, and completed nine research projects funded by various ministries of the Government of India.
Dr. Mir began his career as Project Officer at the State Resource Centre, University of Kashmir (KU), before being appointed founder Deputy Registrar at Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (2005–2009). He later served as Deputy Registrar (2009–2010) and Joint Registrar (2010–2014) at KU. From 2015 to 2017, he served as Joint Secretary at the University Grants Commission (UGC), Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, where he contributed to flagship initiatives such as the National Academic Depository and the Prime Minister’s Special Scholarship Scheme for Jammu and Kashmir students.
He went on to serve as Registrar of NIT Srinagar (2018) and Registrar of KU (2019–2024). Dr. Mir also continues to serve on key national committees, including the UGC Joint Cadre Recruitment Rules Committee tasked with framing recruitment regulations for central universities across India.
