Jhelum Crosses Flood Alert Mark In Srinagar, Authorities Issue Advisory

SRINAGAR: The water level in the Jhelum River at Ram Munshi Bagh, Srinagar, crossed the flood alert mark on Wednesday afternoon following continuous rainfall across Kashmir. Authorities have put field teams on high alert and drawn up contingency plans to deal with any emergency.

Divisional Commissioner Kashmir said that the situation is being closely monitored. “People are advised to exercise caution and not venture near water bodies,” the official advisory read.

According to the gauges recorded at 1:00 pm, the water level at Sangam stood at 24.18 ft against the danger mark of 25 ft, while Ram Munshi Bagh registered 20.14 ft against the danger mark of 21 ft. At Asham, the water level was 10.08 ft compared to the danger mark of 16.5 ft.

Officials added that data collection is being carried out by the Sub-Division Srinagar, and all line departments have been alerted. Emergency helplines have also been activated for public assistance.
