SRINAGAR: Locals of Channapora constituency have strongly criticized their elected representative, MLA Mushtaq Guroo, accusing him of being untraceable and inaccessible to the very people who voted him into office.
Voters alleged that since winning the election, the MLA has distanced himself from the public and is reluctant to meet constituents. Locals from Iqbal Colony ‘A’ in Mehjoor Nagar said their repeated attempts to reach Guroo have been ignored. “We called him dozens of times, but he never picked up. It seems he has chosen to remain cut off from the people,” said one frustrated resident.
The inhabitants expressed particular anger over the selective macadamization of lanes in the area. According to them, several lanes in Mehjoor Nagar were macadamized recently, but their lane was deliberately ignored. “Shall we appeal to the Lieutenant Governor for macadamization when this is the responsibility of our elected government? Why should we be left out?” they asked.
Locals urged MLA to visit their locality and take stock of the issues on the ground rather than staying away from public contact. They stressed that as an elected representative, he owes accountability to the people who placed their trust in him. [KNT]
