Jammu Kashmir Crime Branch Hosts Anti-Human Trafficking Conference

SRINAGAR: A one-day union territory-level conference on anti-human trafficking was held at Tagore Hall Srinagar on Thursday, organised by the Crime Branch Headquarters Jammu and Kashmir in collaboration with the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The conference, aimed at strengthening existing frameworks and addressing the challenges of trafficking in the digital age, was inaugurated under the overall supervision of IGP Crime Jammu and Kashmir. Chief Guest SJM Gillani, IPS Special DG Coordination PHQ Jammu and Kahsmir, urged society to remain vigilant and support police efforts in curbing trafficking.

Senior officials including Alok Kumar, IPS ADGP Director Fire and Emergency Services Jammu and Kashmir, and Uttam Chand, IPS IGP Headquarters PHQ, along with judicial officers, senior police officers, and representatives from various government departments such as Social Welfare, Women and Child Development, and Labour, participated in the event.

The conference also witnessed participation from NGOs, students from Kashmir University and other educational institutions, Border Security Force officers, and nodal police officers of the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit Jammu and Kashmir. Experts including Rajesh Mani, consultant on child protection, and Ravi Kant, advocate at the Supreme Court of India and founder of Shakti Vahini, delivered lectures and presentations offering strategies to dismantle trafficking networks.

Stakeholders shared experiences and expertise in combating trafficking, with emphasis on preventive measures, victim support, and community awareness. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Mohammad Fiesel Qureshi, JKPS SSP SO to IGP Crime, and mementoes were presented to the chief guest and speakers.
