Kupwara: The National Cadet Corps (NCC) marked a significant expansion in Jammu and Kashmir with the establishment of new units and an honors ceremony at the 28 Infantry Division Headquarters in Kupwara on Tuesday.
The event was presided over by the Director General of NCC, Lt Gen Gurbirpal Singh, PVSM, AVSM, VSM, who was the chief guest. He was accompanied by Maj Gen Anupinder Bevli, VSM, ADG JK&L Directorate, Brig Atul Tripathi, Deputy GOC 28 Infantry Division, and Lt Col S. S. Misquith, Officiating Commanding Officer of the 7 J&K Battalion NCC Kupwara.
The program saw enthusiastic participation from nearly 150 cadets, along with ten principals and ten Associate NCC Officers, reflecting the growing interest of youth from border and remote regions in joining the premier youth organization.
Several participants were honored for their exemplary service and performance. First Officer Iftikhar Ahmad Lone, ANO of BHS Tangdhar, was awarded the DG NCC Commendation Card, while appreciation plaques were presented to Dr. Nasrul Islam of GDC Bandipora and Dr. Bilal Ahmad of GDC Tangdhar. The DG NCC Medallion Award was conferred on Cadet Nazrana Ahsan Wani of GDC Bandipora and Cadet Asaid Zahoor of AGS Tangdhar for their outstanding leadership.
In his address, Lt Gen Gurbirpal Singh praised the efforts of the 7 J&K Battalion NCC and urged cadets to live by the organization’s motto of “Unity and Discipline.”
He emphasized that the expansion of NCC units in Jammu and Kashmir would provide greater opportunities to the youth, instill leadership qualities, and strengthen the spirit of patriotism and community service.
Highlighting the dignity attached to the uniform, he told the cadets that after completing their training they would witness a positive transformation within themselves.
He also stressed that the NCC ensures equal opportunities for both male and female cadets in every field, remarking that those who wear the NCC uniform not only earn self-respect but also the respect of society.
