Bandipora, Aug 18: The District Administration Bandipora on Monday issued a detailed advisory in view of the inclement weather forecast by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), which has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall with thunderstorms and gusty winds across parts of Jammu and Kashmir between August 17 and 19.
According to an order issued by the Additional Deputy Commissioner/CEO Bandipora, people have been strictly advised to avoid unnecessary travel, especially towards hilly areas prone to avalanches, landslides, and flash floods. Residents have also been cautioned against venturing close to rivers, streams, irrigation canals, or Wular Lake, where water levels could rise suddenly.
The advisory further prohibits fishermen, sand extractors, and construction workers from going near water bodies until conditions improve. Locals in low-lying areas have been asked to remain alert to the risk of waterlogging, flash floods, and mudslides. Farmers have been urged to take steps to safeguard crops and livestock, while parents were advised to ensure children do not play near swollen streams or rivers.

The PWD/R&B has been asked to keep machinery ready for road clearance, I&FC to monitor water levels and embankments, PHE to ensure uninterrupted water supply, and KPDCL to keep rapid response teams on standby. The Health Department has been directed to deploy emergency medical teams, while Police and SDRF have been tasked to stay alert for possible evacuation and rescue operations.
Fire & Emergency Services have been instructed to keep dewatering pumps ready, RDD and Municipal bodies to clear drains and prevent waterlogging, and FCS&CA to ensure ration availability, especially in remote areas.
