Rajouri, Aug 14: Several areas in the Rajouri and Poonch districts of the Pir Panjal region experienced a flood-like situation on Thursday.

With relentless rainfall lashing the region, two minor children were injured when a house collapsed in Khargala village of Kalakote on Wednesday.

The injured have been identified as seven-year-old Muhammad Waqar Ali, son of Muhammad Taseen, who sustained a head injury, and two-year-old Zainat Firdous, daughter of Muhammad Zaffar.

Both children were initially rushed to the Community Health Centre (CHC) Kalakote for immediate treatment.

Medical staff at CHC Kalakote provided first aid before referring the duo to the Government Medical College (GMC) Associated Hospital, Rajouri, for advanced care.

Eyewitnesses described scenes of chaos as villagers scrambled to rescue the children from the debris, battling muddy terrain and continuous downpour.

Meanwhile, a major tragedy was averted in Rajouri on Thursday when an ambulance carrying a patient got trapped in a flash flood on the Rajouri-Thanamandi road.

The sudden surge of water left the vehicle stranded in the middle of the gushing stream, posing a grave risk to the patient and medical staff on board.

Eyewitnesses said that locals present in the area acted without hesitation, rushing towards the vehicle and battling the strong current to stop it from being swept away.

After a tense rescue effort, the ambulance was safely pulled out of the flooded stretch, allowing it to continue its journey.
