JKCA U-14 team clinches inter-school title

Jammu, Aug 2: JKCA Tigers emerged champions of the first-ever U-14 Boys Inter-School Cricket Tournament organised by the J&K Cricket Association, defeating Jodhamal School by eight wickets in a low-scoring final at JP World School on Saturday.

As per a statement issued, the event organised by the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association is aimed at tapping talent at the grassroots level.

The tournament witnessed participation of eight teams from prominent schools, with the event beginning on July 21 and concluding with an award ceremony today.

Earlier, put into bat, Jodhamal School scored a paltry total of 58 runs in 15 overs. None of the batters could show any application, and the whole side collapsed at a meagre total. For JKCA Tigers, the trio of Ali Bilal, Adeesh, & Keshav Gupta wreaked havoc and took 3 wickets each. In reply, JKCA Tigers rode on a magnificent knock of 28 runs by Chaitanya Dogra to chase the target easily by losing 2 wickets.

The Prize Distribution Function was graced by Brig. Anil Gupta, Member Administration JKCA; Mithun Manhas, Member Cricket Operations and Development JKCA; Ashok Singh, former First Class Cricketer and Senior Selector JKCA; Dr Vinod Bakshi, Director of Physical Education and Sports Cluster, University of Jammu; and a galaxy of dignitaries, who honoured the winners and runners-up teams with trophies and medals.

Chaitanya Dogra was adjudged as the player of the match, and the award was presented to him by Rohit Malhotra, while Saksh Gupta was declared as the best all-rounder, and the award was presented to him by Ashok Singh, former first-class cricketer and senior selector of JKCA. Rahat Raina was adjudged as the player of the tournament, who received the award from Dr Vinod Bakshi, Director of Physical Education and Sports Cluster University Jammu, and Ali Bilal was adjudged as the most promising player of the tournament, who received the award from Desh Rattan Dubey, former joint secretary of JKCA.
