YSS Anantnag concludes zonal U-17 cricket tournaments

Anantnag, Aug : The Department of Youth Services and Sports Anantnag successfully concluded a series of spirited U-17 Boys Inter-School Cricket Tournaments across various zones, with enthusiastic participation from students and staff, promoting both sportsmanship and social responsibility.

At Zone Bijbehara, SMI Arwani clinched the championship title of the U-17 Zonal Level Inter-School Cricket Tournament 2025, overcoming HSS Arwani by 23 runs in a thrilling final match played at BMHSS Bijbehara Ground.

As per a statement, the event, hosted at Jablipora and BHSS Bijbehara venues, witnessed participation from nearly 600 students representing almost all high and higher secondary schools of the zone. District Activity Incharge Mohammad Abbas Dar interacted with the players at the opening ceremony, while the principals of BHSS Bijbehara, HSS Arwani, and SMI Arwani graced the final award ceremony, presenting trophies and medals to the winning and runner-up teams.

In a gesture of unity and compassion, Zone Bijbehara officials also organised a special Dua-i-Magfirat Majlis during the tournament’s inauguration to pray for the departed soul of the wife of Shabir Ahmad Dar (Junior Assistant, Zone Bijbehara), who passed away recently after a prolonged illness. The Majlis saw emotional participation from all officials in a collective show of solidarity with the bereaved colleague.

Meanwhile, Zone Srigufwara held its own U-17 Boys Cricket Competition at Sports Stadium Nowshara. ZPEO, Mohd Maqbool Thoker, inaugurated the event, urging students to stay away from drugs and other social evils and to embrace sports for a healthier lifestyle. At Zone Shangus, a combined environmental awareness and sports event was held at Sports Stadium Nowgam, where students and staff took part in a plantation drive, planting various nutritional plants within the campus. The final of the U-17 Cricket Tournament followed, with GHS Nowgam defeating HS Brariangan to emerge as champions.
