SRINAGAR: The Economic Offences Wing of Crime Branch Kashmir has registered an FIR against Shahid Rehman Bhat, son of Abdul Rehman Bhat, a resident of Tulbagh Shangus in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, for allegedly defrauding multiple individuals on the false promise of supplying high-density apple plants.

According to the Crime Branch, several complaints were received against Shahid Rehman Bhat, who operates under the banner of M/s AR Trading Agri Services Pvt. Ltd. Complainants alleged that Bhat collected large sums of money from farmers and private individuals after assuring them timely delivery of high-density apple plants, a key input in modern apple farming. However, neither were the promised plants delivered nor was the money refunded. After collecting crores of rupees, the accused reportedly went into hiding.

Bank transaction records submitted by the victims confirmed substantial transfers to Bhat’s accounts. The Crime Branch has taken cognisance of the offence and registered a formal case under Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, at the Economic Offences Wing Police Station.

Authorities said investigations are underway to trace the accused and recover the defrauded money. Victims, mostly farmers, have urged swift action to prevent further exploitation.
