Jammu: Post -Pahalgam terror attack of April 22 a big diplomatic victory has greeted India. Its stand that Pakistan-based terror outfit The Resistance Front ( TRF) , a proxy of Lashkar-e-Tayyiba ( LeT) , was responsible for the attack has been vindicated and acknowledged by the US in real time . The US State Department has declared TRF as Specially Designated Global Terrorist ( SDGT).
This announcement and action of the State Department will have consequences for the group that has been acting as front to the original terror outfit LeT for years now , and Pakistan that has been nurturing TRF , feeding it with money and other resources .
While making this announcement Thursday , the State Department made a specific reference to the TRF owning the responsibility for the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 civilians, mostly Indian tourists were killed .
It also stated that This designation of the TRF as terrorist organization is in line with President Trump’s call for justice for the Pahalgam attack.
This rivets to the point that India made after the attack that Pakistan and its terror outfit – TRF, a known proxy of LeT, is responsible for Pahalgam terror attack , which had far greater dangerous dimensions that could be immediately taken note of .
The choice of the place, targets and methodology were indicative of what the Indian government analyzed – ( a ) to kill tourism economy of Kashmir , ( b) sow communal discord and ( c) to reverse the gains made in the past five-six years – especially since the abrogation of Article 370 ..
Pakistan went into denial mode even after the TRF claimed he responsibility for the terror attack on the afternoon of April 22nd in Baisaran meadow in Pahalgam Valley. Not only that , it also fought vigorously and got the name of TRF removed from the UN Security Council resolution of April 25 . That , in itself was an irrefutable evidence of deep involvement in the Pahalgam massacre , mounted with several anti-India, in particular anti-Kashmir, designs .
Despite Pakistan’s objections , the UNSC “ underlined the need to hold perpetrators , organizers , financers and sponsors of this reprehensible act of terrorism accountable and bring them to justice .” The UNSC members , in this resolution, also had stressed that those responsible for these killings should be held accountable and urged all States , in accordance with their obligations under international law and relevant Security Council resolutions, to cooperate with all relevant authorities in this regard.”
The State Department’s statement highlighting the fact that TRF, a Lashkar-e-Tayyiba front and proxy “ claimed responsibility for the April 22, 2025 Pahalgam attack that killed 26 civilians,” and noted with grave concern : “ This was the deadliest attack on civilians since the 2008 Mumbai attacks conducted by the LeT . TRF has also claimed responsibility for several attacks against Indian security forces , including most recently in 2024.”
This was a broad sketching of the terror outfit’s reach and lethality in Jammu and Kashmir on two counts as Mumbai Terror attack , abbreviated as 26/11 and series of attacks on the army in Jammu region in 2023 and 2024
“ These actions taken by the Department of State demonstrates the Trump Administration’s commitment to protecting our national security interests, countering terrorism, and enforcing President Trump’s call for justice for the Pahalgam attack.,” the State Department statement read.
And when the US government designated groups as SGDT, there are consequences for these groups as also for those supporting them. This way Pakistan is clearly under scanner, as it is now seen as home to the globally designated terrorist groups , one after another.
