SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday directed officials to enhance safety measures for pilgrims undertaking the ongoing Amarnath Yatra, following a minor accident near Chanderkote that left 36 devotees injured.

The incident occurred when a Pahalgam-bound vehicle experienced brake failure and collided with other stationary vehicles. All 36 injured pilgrims sustained only minor injuries and were discharged after receiving preliminary treatment. They have since resumed their journey to the holy cave.

“By the blessings of Lord Shiva, all the devotees are safe,” said the Lieutenant Governor. He reaffirmed that the safety of pilgrims remains the top priority and instructed officials to carry out rigorous safety checks at all critical locations along the Yatra route. He also directed the concerned departments to ensure uninterrupted availability of food, medicines, and other essential services.

Earlier, LG Sinha spoke to Divisional Commissioner Jammu Ramesh Kumar and Deputy Commissioner Ramban Mohammad Alyas Khan, directing them to extend full support and assistance to the injured pilgrims. He also asked senior officials to stay on alert and maintain robust arrangements to ensure a smooth and secure Yatra.

The Lieutenant Governor commended the district administration and health department for their swift response, which helped avoid any major consequences from the mishap.
