Sgr-Jammu NH remains open

Ramban, Jul 1: The Srinagar- Jammu National Highway remained open for two-way traffic of light medium and heavy vehicles today.

However, traffic authorities said traffic movement remained slow due to ongoing four-lane construction works at different places between Nashri and Banihal.

Officials said traffic movement remained slow due to breakdown of few vehicles and due to four-lane construction work at Dalwass and between Maroog and Kishtwari Pathar stretch between Nashri and Banihal sector of National Highway.

Traffic authorities monitoring the regulation in Ramban said that despite slow traffic movement hundreds of passenger light medium and heavy vehicles, oil and gas tankers plied towards their respective destinations in Srinagar and Jammu till late this evening.

They said that light medium and heavy motor vehicles are crossing the Nashri-Banihal stretch of the highway towards Kashmir and Jammu, respectively, although at a slow pace.

Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir traffic department issued a fresh advisory for Tuesday stating that subject to fair weather and better road conditions  Shri Amarnath ji Yatra (SANJY) convoy/LMVs, Passenger/Private Cars shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu-Srinagar NHW (NH-44) viz from Jammu towards Srinagar and vice-versa.

However, HMVs shall be allowed on alternate days.  They said in view of Shri AmarNath  Ji Yatra Srinagar, light medium passenger vehicles would be released from 6am to 12 pm, from Nagrota (Jammu) towards Srinagar and from Jakheni (Udhampur) towards Srinagar: from 7 am to 1pm.

Similarly the cut off timings for Jammu bound vehicles from Qazigund, Kashmir has been fixed from 11-30 am to 2 pm.

Subject to fair weather and better road conditions, HMVs shall be allowed from Jakheni (Udhampur) towards Srinagar after assessing the road and traffic situation on NH-44 and No heavy vehicle shall be allowed after 8pm.

No vehicle shall be allowed to move before and after cut off timings.

Traffic authorities advised passengers and LMVs operators to undertake journeys on the Jammu-Srinagar Highway during the day time due to apprehension of landslides and shooting stones between the Ramban and Banihal sectors.

Commuters are advised to avoid unnecessary haltage between Ramban and Banihal especially near landslides, shooting stone prone areas.
