Jammu, Jun 28: General Officer Commanding (GOC) 26 Infantry Division, in a solemn ceremony, honouring the legacy of late Maj Gen Atma Singh, first Indian GOC of Jammu Division (now Tiger Division), laid a wreath at his memorial at Jammu-Udhampur Highway on Saturday.

“Late Maj Gen Atma Singh was a distinguished officer, who laid down his life in the service of the nation where he died in harness in an unfortunate incident where the memorial stands. The memorial has been revamped to the befitting standards to pay tribute to the exceptional leader,” PRO Defence Lt Col Suneel Bartwal said.

During his tenure as the GOC of the 26 Infantry Division, late Maj Gen Singh displayed exemplary leadership, unwavering dedication and an unyielding commitment to the welfare of his troops.

“His memory will forever remain etched in the annals of the Indian Army’s history, serving as a beacon of inspiration for generations to come. The occasion was also a befitting tribute to all our fallen soldiers on the Diamond Jubilee of 1965 Indo-Pak war, in which Tiger Division achieved success,” Lt Col Bartwal said.
