SRINAGAR: In a move aimed at preventing accidents and safeguarding lives, the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Ganderbal has imposed a blanket ban on swimming, bathing, and taking selfies in and around Nallah Sindh, including several high-risk locations such as Wayil, Mammer, Gagangeer, Hung, and Sonamarg.

According to an official order, the ban has been enforced given the “high risk of accidents and fatalities associated with swimming, bathing, and taking selfies in and around Nallah Sindh”. The areas mentioned include the vicinity of the Arch Truss Bridge at Wayil, Mammer, Gagangeer, Hung, and Sonamarg, which pose significant safety threats due to strong currents, deep water, and other hazards.

The order reads that the ban is effective immediately and will remain in force until further notice. It emphasises that the step has been taken purely in the interest of public safety.

Tehsildars (Executive Magistrates), Station House Officers (SHOs), and officials from the Jal Shakti (I&FC) Department have been directed to maintain strict vigil in their respective jurisdictions to ensure the order is implemented in letter and spirit.

The public has been urged to cooperate with authorities in enforcing the ban. Any violation of the order will attract punitive action under the rules in force, the order reads. (JKNS)
