SRINAGAR: A lawmaker from Pulwama has voiced strong concern over what has been described as prolonged neglect and systemic anomalies in the service structure of Assistant Registrars in Jammu and Kashmir’s Cooperative Department.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the PDP lawmaker, Waheed Parra, pointed to the glaring pay disparity affecting Assistant Registrars—Class III Gazetted officers—who, despite holding vital administrative responsibilities, are reportedly receiving salaries lower than several non-gazetted staff in the department.
The concern also extends to the withdrawal of Drawing and Disbursing Officer (DDO) powers from these officers, a move that has left them accountable for operations without the corresponding financial or administrative authority.
Calling it a matter of serious injustice, the legislator urged Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to take prompt action. He appealed for the restoration of dignity, functional powers, and due entitlements of the Assistant Registrars, stressing that the issue demands immediate attention and correction.
