
Srinagar, Jun 11: St Joseph’s School, Baramulla, lifted the ALFA Interschool Hockey Tournament 2026 trophy after registering a convincing 3-1 victory over Government Higher Secondary School, Jawahar Nagar, in the Grand Finale played on Thursday at the Astro Turf, Polo Ground, Srinagar.
The 10-day tournament, as per a statement, held from 2nd June to 11th June 2026, was organised by Badal Hockey Club in collaboration with J&K Sports Council and Hockey J&K. Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir Manoj Sinha was the Chief Guest and gave away the trophies and individual awards at the closing ceremony.
As per the statement, award winners were St Joseph’s School, Baramulla, first runner-up Govt HSS, Jawahar Nagar, second runner-up Delhi Public School, Baramulla, emerging team award Birla Open Minds School, Man of the Match (Final) Prabhveer Singh, St Joseph’s Baramulla, Best Player of the Tournament VarunPreet Singh, HSS Jawahar Nagar, best goalkeeper of the Tournament Gurveer Singh, St Joseph’s Baramulla.
The tournament featured 32 school teams from across J&K and was held under the campaign ‘No to Drugs, Yes to Sports’, promoting the LG Sinha’s vision of NashaMukt J&K.
Addressing the gathering, LG Manoj Sinha congratulated all participants and lauded Badal Hockey Club for successfully conducting the tournament.
In his Vote of Thanks, Vice President, Badal Hockey Club thanked LG, J&K Sports Council, Hockey J&K, title sponsor ALFA Sports, and all 32 participating schools. He also made a humble request for consideration of regularisation of 18 SPO players of J&K Police Hockey Team.
