SRINAGAR: A 25-year-old man from Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir is under investigation after he was allegedly found portraying himself as an employee of the Intelligence Bureau (IB) and carrying a purported identity card of doubtful authenticity.

An official said that during the course of information collection, it came to the notice of the authorities that Ankush Sharma, son of Ravi Sharma and a resident of Ward No. 06, Kathua, who is reportedly a Class 12 pass and assists his father at a tea stall in Sabzi Mandi, Kathua, was allegedly representing himself as an Intelligence Bureau employee.

“The individual was reportedly found carrying and displaying an alleged IB identity card, the authenticity of which has been questioned by the authorities,” the official said, adding, “Upon receiving information about the matter, senior officers of the Intelligence Bureau took cognizance of the issue and questioned the individual regarding his claims and the identity card in his possession.”

“Following the preliminary inquiry, Ankush Sharma was taken to JIC Nagri for further verification and investigation to establish the facts surrounding the case and determine the authenticity of the purported identity card,” the official added.

He said that the inquiry is currently underway, and further action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation. “No official conclusion has yet been reached regarding the authenticity of the identity card or any alleged offence,” the official added. (KNO)
