Anantnag, Jun 10: National Conference (NC) President Farooq Abdullah on Wednesday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has repeatedly assured Chief Minister Omar Abdullah that the Centre will fulfil its promise to restore statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.
“The Prime Minister has recently told Omar that he will fulfil his promise on restoration of statehood to J&K,” Abdullah told reporters in Anantnag.
About the delay in approving business rules for the J&K government, he said the party’s focus remained on securing the restoration of statehood.
“We want not only the business rules but also restoration of statehood. Statehood is their promise before the world. We are waiting for it,” the former chief minister said.
Abdullah said the PM’s commitment to restore statehood had been made publicly and expressed hope that the promise would be fulfilled soon.
The NC has stepped up its campaign for the restoration of statehood to J&K and announced a protest in New Delhi on the opening day of the Monsoon Session of Parliament to press for its restoration.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the party’s legislators chaired by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on June 3.
