Fraudulent certificates used to secure service extension; EOW Kashmir chargesheets two in Bandipora

Srinagar, Jun 07: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW), Kashmir, of the Crime Branch Jammu and Kashmir has filed a chargesheet against two persons for allegedly securing illegal extension of government service by using forged documents and fraudulent certificates.

According to a statement issued to Alfaaz – The Words, the chargesheet in FIR No. 05/2026, registered under Sections 420, 468 and 471 of the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC), was presented before the Court of Judicial Magistrate 1st Class, Sumbal, against Ghulam Mohammad Bhat, son of Mohammad Jawad Bhat, and Assadullah Bhat, son of Haji Ghulam Ahmad Bhat, both residents of Rakhi Shilwat in Bandipora district.

The statement said that investigations conducted by the EOW revealed that the accused had allegedly concealed their actual educational qualifications and falsely projected themselves as illiterate in order to manipulate official records. It further stated that they had obtained altered dates of birth on the basis of fraudulent certificates, leading to incorrect entries in their service records.

According to the statement, the alleged manipulation enabled the accused to continue in government service beyond their legitimate tenure and obtain undue financial benefits, thereby causing loss to the State exchequer.

Following completion of the investigation, the Crime Branch filed the chargesheet before the competent court for further legal proceedings, the statement added.

Meanwhile, the EOW Kashmir has advised the public to remain vigilant against economic frauds and report such offences to the Senior Superintendent of Police, EOW Kashmir, Crime Branch J&K.

Victims of economic fraud may also submit complaints through the official email address of the Economic Offences Wing for appropriate legal action, the statement said.
