Srinagar, June 5: The anti-tobacco cell in Kashmir has launched a big crackdown on the sale of foreign cigarettes which are sold without statutory warning . The cell has sealed the establishments selling such cigarettes in Lal Chowk and Bijbehra and this campaign , according to official sources will continue with greater intensity .
The NT Bijbehra ( Anantnag) cell team led by Tanveer Ahmed along with police sealed a shop in Manda in Goriwan, Bijbehra belonging to Bashir Ahmad Manda S/O Ghulam Nabi Resident of Secope , Bijbehra . The shop was selling foreign cigarettes . These cigarette packets do not carry the statutory warning , alerting the smokers that smoking cigarettes is injurious to health . These warnings are mandatory for all the tobacco companies, but these foreign cigarettes of foreign countries do not carry such warnings , thus violating the Indian rules , endangering the health of the people .
The impression goes as if smoking these foreign cigarettes have no consequences for the health of the individuals smoking these tobacco products .
The anti-tobacco cell also conducted raids in Lal Chowk , Anantnag . Acting on reliable information that the Vapes ( foreign cigarettes ) were being sold by Jewel Pan Shop in Lal Chowk, the NT cell raided the shop owned by Mohammad Younis S/O Habbibullah Wani , resident of Anchidora Azadpora, Anantnag . Sixteen vapes were recovered . A case has been registered under section 4 of the prohibition of Electronic cigarettes .
This action has sent shivers down the sellers of electronic and foreign cigarettes across the Valley. Sources said that more raids are in pipeline all across Kashmir in the coming days.
