
SRINAGAR: Police in Ganderbal have busted an attempt to fraudulently facilitate Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra services and arrested a man accused of impersonation and cheating in the Sonamarg area.
Officials said that on May 27, 2026, Police Station Sonamarg received credible inputs that a suspect identified as Mohd Ayob Jara, son of Abdul Rehman Jara, resident of Androola, Poonch, was moving in the Domail area and falsely projecting himself as a government employee associated with the Domail axis of the Shri Amarnath Cave route.
The accused allegedly attempted to deceive visiting vendors and service providers by claiming he could facilitate their participation and services related to the Yatra in exchange for money.
Following the complaint, an FIR was registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Police Station Sonamarg and investigation was initiated.
Acting on sustained efforts, police apprehended the accused on the evening of June 3, 2026. He has been taken into custody, while further investigation is underway, officials said.
