Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Udhampur-Reasi (U-R) range Shiv Kumar Sharma on Wednesday asserted that all the security agencies in perfect synergy were making coordinated efforts to ensure peaceful and safe Amarnath Yatra, commencing next month.

“All the desired security arrangements have been put in place for the annual Amarnath Yatra, which significantly boosts the economy of the region, almost leaving no sector untouched,” DIG Sharma said, while responding to media queries about Amarnath Yatra, after reviewing the security situation in Reasi.

He exhorted the people across the region to help in the promotion of Yatra by welcoming and assisting the pilgrims in need.

“As far as security arrangements are concerned, our entire Jammu and Kashmir Police and our other security agencies, including the Army and CRPF, are on high-alert mode. JKP cops in perfect synergy with the security personnel are on the ground. Intensive checking is underway. Heightened surveillance is being maintained on the higher reaches in the hilly terrains. Layered security arrangements have been made around the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine and the entire National Highway,” DIG stated.

With regard to arrangements put in place in the border areas, Sharma said that the security from all angles was being bolstered.

“To ensure an impenetrable security grid, the Village Defence Guards (VDGs) are also playing a very active role. Efforts are underway to strengthen them (VDGs),” he added.
