SRINAGAR: The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) Anantnag on Tuesday continued search operations for the third consecutive day to locate the body of a 42-year-old Srinagar man who is feared to have drowned in the Lidder River in Pahalgam while attempting to rescue his son.

Officials identified the missing person as Mohammad Ashraf Mir, son of Ghulam Mohiuddin Mir, a resident of Ikhrajpora, Jawahar Nagar, Srinagar.

The incident occurred on Sunday near the Langanbal area of Pahalgam in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

According to officials, the family was taking photographs along the banks of the Lidder River near the Kolahoi Green Hotel when Mir’s son, Fahad, slipped into the fast-flowing water.

In an attempt to save him, Mir entered the river but was swept away by the strong current.

Search and rescue operations were launched immediately after the incident and continued through Sunday and Monday. The operation resumed on Tuesday morning, with SDRF teams and other rescue personnel continuing efforts to trace the missing man.
