SRINAGAR: As many as 229 candidates were issued appointment letters at a Rozgar Mela held at the Convention Centre in Jammu on Saturday under the Government of India’s nationwide employment initiative aimed at expanding job opportunities for young people, officials said.
The event was attended by Divisional Railway Manager Jammu Vivek Kumar as chief guest, with Railway Recruitment Board Jammu Chairman Sanjay Tyagi also present. Appointment letters were distributed to selected candidates recruited across sectors including banking, railways, armed forces, medical services and various departments of the Jammu and Kashmir administration.
The programme began with a lamp-lighting ceremony and the National Anthem, followed by a virtual address by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who interacted with newly recruited candidates across the country through video conferencing. The Prime Minister said the initiative reflected efforts to strengthen youth participation in governance and public services and urged appointees to serve with dedication and integrity.
Following the address, appointment letters were distributed digitally nationwide, while those present in Jammu received their documents in person from the dignitaries.
Speaking at the event, DRM Jammu Vivek Kumar said the youth of Jammu and Kashmir possess significant potential and that such recruitment drives support their integration into national development efforts. He said Indian Railways remained committed to expanding employment opportunities and public service delivery.
Officials said the event concluded with celebrations as candidates received their appointment letters in the presence of families and staff. Several beneficiaries described the moment as significant for their careers and personal lives.
Authorities said the Rozgar Mela forms part of a wider national programme aligned with long-term development goals aimed at strengthening public recruitment processes and increasing youth participation in government services.
