AIIMS JAMMU ORGANISES CME ON OPHTHALMOLOGICAL DIAGNOSTIC INNOVATIONS

The Department of Ophthalmology, All India Institute of Medical Sciences Jammu organized a CME-cum-Workshop on “Diagnostic Innovations and Clinical Applications in Cornea and Retina” on May 16, 2026, at the Convention Centre, AIIMS Jammu.

The academic programme focused on recent advances in corneal and retinal imaging techniques and their clinical applications in patient care. The workshop aimed to enhance diagnostic and interpretative skills among ophthalmologists, postgraduate students, optometrists, and paediatricians.

Renowned experts from Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Prof. Chintan Malhotra and Dr. Deeksha Katoch, along with the President of the Young Ophthalmologists’ Society of India, Dr. Diva Kant Mishra, delivered insightful lectures and interactive sessions. Key topics discussed included corneal topography and topographic patterns in ectatic disorders, early detection of keratoconus, Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) screening guidelines, and the basics of OCT angiography along with its clinical applications.

The CME was conducted under the patronage of Prof. (Dr.) D.N. Sharma, Executive Director and CEO, AIIMS Jammu and Prof. (Dr) Meeta Gupta, Dean Academics.

Prof. (Dr.) D.N. Sharma emphasized the importance of regularly organising such academic programmes to strengthen clinical expertise, encourage continuous professional learning, and ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care through the adoption of emerging diagnostic advancements.

The Organising Chairperson, Dr. Bhavani Raina, Officiating Head, Department of Ophthalmology, welcomed the guests and introduced the CME. Co-Organising Chairperson Dr. Nitin Kumar (Associate Professor), along with Organising Secretaries Dr. Nazia Anjum and Dr. Ridham Nanda (Assistant Professors), moderated the event, ensured its smooth conduct, and encouraged active participation from the residents. Senior Residents Dr. Asma Jabeen and Dr. Shefali Verma coordinated the event.

The CME was attended by Dr. Renu Hashia, Dr. Maneesha Sethi, and Dr. Priyanka Sodani, Heads of the Departments of Ophthalmology at ASCOMS Jammu, GMC Udhampur, and GMC Kathua, respectively. The programme served as an effective platform for academic exchange and is expected to improve patient care through better diagnostic accuracy and timely interventions.
