Srinagar, May 18: The Delhi High Court on Monday granted interim bail to Baramulla MP Er Rashid to enable him to attend funeral rites of his father, Khazir Mohammad Sheikh, who passed away earlier this morning.

Haji Khazir Mohammad Sheikh, described by the Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) as a veteran teacher and a man of integrity, as per news agency GNS, breathed his last this morning. His demise continues to draw condolences from political, social and religious circles across Jammu and Kashmir.

Following the death, the AIP had appealed to authorities to allow the incarcerated MP to participate in the last rites on humanitarian grounds.

Er Rashid, who is currently lodged in Tihar Jail in connection with a ‘terror-funding case’ being investigated by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), was considered and subsequently granted interim relief by the Delhi High Court for attending the funeral and related rituals of his father.
