MP Er Rashid’s Father Passes Away; AIP Seeks Humanitarian Release for Funeral

Srinagar, May 18: Haji Khazir Mohammad Sheikh, father of jailed Baramulla Member of Parliament Engineer Rashid, passed away on Sunday, the Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) said.

In a statement, AIP Chief Spokesperson Inam Un Nabi described the deceased as a veteran teacher and a respected figure known for his commitment to education, ethics, and community service. He said Haji Khazir Mohammad Sheikh had remained a constant source of support for Er Rashid throughout his political journey.

The party appealed to the Government of India to grant Er Rashid temporary release on humanitarian grounds to enable him to attend his father’s last rites.

“It is a son’s basic right to bid farewell to his father. No political difference should come in the way of human compassion at such a time,” Inam Un Nabi said.

The spokesman termed the demise a significant loss for the bereaved family, former students, and admirers across Jammu and Kashmir, adding that the AIP leadership and workers stand in solidarity with the family during the period of mourning.
