SRINAGAR: Police in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district have initiated attachment and seizure proceedings against Bashir Ahmad Mir of Doonipora Sangam and his family under Section 68-F of the NDPS Act, following findings that they allegedly accumulated assets disproportionate to their known sources of income.

Officials said the action follows an enquiry conducted under Chapter VA of the NDPS Act, which indicated that the movable and immovable properties held jointly by the family are suspected to have been acquired through proceeds of illicit narcotics trade.

Police said the total value of the attached assets is estimated at around Rs 6.5 crore.

The properties include double-storeyed residential houses, a newly constructed house at Doonipora Sangam, a commercial building named “Muskan Restaurant” at Sangam, around 211 marlas of land in Sangam and Naina areas, and a Hyundai Creta vehicle bearing registration number JK03H-5758.

Authorities said the family has prior criminal antecedents in multiple NDPS cases, including FIR No. 213/2024 involving recovery of 58.90 kg of poppy straw, FIR No. 191/2020 involving 500 grams of charas, and FIR No. 232/2011 involving 1.100 kg of charas linked to a family member.

Police said the action is part of efforts to dismantle the financial infrastructure of drug trafficking networks and prevent use of illicit proceeds for acquiring assets. Further proceedings are underway.
