
SRINAGAR: A delegation of the Committee on Government Assurances of the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly on Thursday visited the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly and held discussions with Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather on strengthening legislative oversight and inter-state cooperation.
The delegation was led by Committee Chairman Harishankar Khatik and included members Gourav Singh Pardhi, Rajan Mandloi and Ramnivas Saha, besides senior officials.
The visit focused on exchanging knowledge and understanding the legislative work culture and procedural functioning of the respective committees, particularly in relation to monitoring government assurances and ensuring accountability.
During the interaction, members of the two legislatures discussed best practices and evolving mechanisms adopted to track implementation of assurances made by governments on the floor of the House.
Speaking on the occasion, Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather highlighted the role of the Committee on Government Assurances in promoting transparency and accountability in governance. He said interactions with committees from other states help legislatures understand diverse parliamentary practices and strengthen democratic institutions through cooperation and shared learning.
The discussions also centred on improving legislative oversight and developing more effective systems for monitoring and implementation of government commitments.
The visiting delegation appreciated the functioning of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly and expressed satisfaction over the exchange of ideas and legislative practices during the visit.
The Speaker said such parliamentary interactions play an important role in strengthening democratic values and fostering continued dialogue between legislative institutions across the country.
