GMC Srinagar Organises Multi-Speciality Medical Camp in Hazratbal, 500 Patients Tackled | Kashmir Life

SRINAGAR: A Multi-Speciality Outreach Medical Camp was organised at Kanikuch Abidal in the Hazratbal area of Srinagar on Wednesday by the Department of Community Medicine, Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar under the Family Adoption Programme mandated by the National Medical Commission.

The medical camp was inaugurated by Principal and Dean, Iffat Hassan Shah, in the presence of Deputy Registrar Academics Saleem Itoo, Head of the Department of Community Medicine SM Salim Khan, District Tuberculosis Officer Srinagar Abdul Rouf, Block Medical Officer Hazratbal Abdul Majeed Bhat, faculty members, resident doctors and healthcare staff of Block Hazratbal.

The outreach programme aimed to provide comprehensive preventive, promotive, diagnostic and curative healthcare services to the local population at their doorstep.

Officials said around 500 patients attended the camp and availed various healthcare services. Free services included distribution of medicines, haemoglobin testing, blood sugar testing, triple serology testing facilitated by NACO, AI-generated chest X-ray screening, sputum examination by the District Tuberculosis Office Srinagar, and blood pressure and body mass index measurements.

Specialist consultation services were provided in several disciplines including ENT, General Medicine, Dermatology, Psychiatry, Surgery, Paediatrics, Gynaecology and Obstetrics, Ophthalmology, AYUSH and Dental care. Patients were examined by specialist doctors and provided treatment, counselling and referrals wherever required.

As part of the outreach activities, a school visit was also conducted during which specialists interacted with students and held awareness sessions on adolescent health issues including mental health, peer pressure, menstrual hygiene and mobile addiction. The sessions focused on promoting healthy lifestyle practices, emotional well-being and health awareness among schoolchildren.

The programme witnessed active participation from healthcare professionals, postgraduate students, paramedical staff and local health workers, who collectively ensured the smooth conduct of the camp. Health education on preventive healthcare, hygiene, nutrition, non-communicable diseases and early diagnosis was also provided to beneficiaries.

The initiative reflects the continued commitment of GMC Srinagar and its associated hospitals towards strengthening community-based healthcare delivery and improving access to essential medical services in underserved areas.

On the occasion, Prof. Shah appreciated the efforts of the Department of Community Medicine in successfully organising the medical camp and highlighted the importance of such outreach programmes in enhancing community health services and public health awareness.
