Mini marathon in Langate Handwara backs ‘Nasha Mukt J&K Campaign’

Handwara: A 5-kilometre mini marathon was organised in the Mawar area of Langate on Sunday to promote fitness and raise awareness against drug abuse under the Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir UT Abhiyan.

The event was organised by Hangah Youth Club in collaboration with the Indian Army (Langate) and Handwara Police, drawing participation from over 100 youth from Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.

The marathon started from Qalamabad Market and concluded at Government Boys High School Hangah. Participants displayed strong enthusiasm and competitive spirit throughout the race.

Ten participants were shortlisted as top performers, of whom three were declared winners and awarded cash prizes along with certificates. Pankaj Sharma of Udhampur secured the first position and received Rs 10,000, while Tahir Aziz of Kupwara and Rizwan Hassan of Ganderbal finished second and third respectively.

The event was attended by former DDC Mawar Khursheed Ahmad Dar, Chairman Pharou Youth Federation and gold medalist Noorul Shabaz, SHO Qalamabad Sameer Altaf, an Army officer, Principal of Government Boys High School Hangah, General Secretary Traders Federation Handwara Ab Rashid Malik, besides other officials, youth and students.

Speakers on the occasion highlighted the importance of physical fitness and healthy lifestyles, and stressed the need to curb drug abuse among youth. They urged young people to adopt constructive activities and stay away from narcotics.

The organisers and participants lauded the role of the Indian Army and Handwara Police in conducting awareness programmes, stating that such initiatives are vital in reinforcing efforts towards a drug-free society. (via. Dr. Ab Qayoom)
