SRINAGAR: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday chaired a high-level review meeting at Raj Bhavan to assess the progress of the Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyaan and district-wise action plans aimed at tackling drug abuse and narco-terrorism in the Union Territory.

The meeting was attended by senior civil and police officials, including the Chief Secretary, Director General of Police, Home Department officials, divisional and district officers from the Kashmir region, and heads of key administrative departments.

During the review, the Lieutenant Governor directed all district administrations to implement a focused, time-bound and result-oriented strategy over the next 78 days, with measurable outcomes in curbing drug abuse and dismantling narcotics networks.

He stressed the need for intensified grassroots-level mobilisation at panchayat and ward levels, calling for active participation of community stakeholders, including religious leaders, educationists, traders, youth groups and civil society members to strengthen the campaign as a mass movement.

Emphasising youth engagement, the Lieutenant Governor directed authorities to expand sports infrastructure across all panchayats, including the development of playfields, and to organise regular sports events under the anti-drug campaign to channel youth energy towards constructive activities.

Reiterating a zero-tolerance policy towards narcotics, he called for strict enforcement action against drug traffickers and directed expedited implementation of standard operating procedures for suspension or cancellation of driving licences and passports of drug peddlers. He also instructed authorities to identify and seize properties linked to narcotics networks.

The Lieutenant Governor further asked officials to intensify inspections of pharmaceutical establishments to prevent misuse of prescription drugs, and to strengthen monitoring around educational institutions and vulnerable areas.

He directed Deputy Commissioners to take action against unauthorised or fake de-addiction and rehabilitation centres, ensuring that only certified facilities operate within the regulatory framework.

Highlighting community participation, he called for strengthening Mahila Samitis and youth clubs to support awareness drives, early identification of vulnerable individuals and local monitoring efforts. He also instructed officials to utilise Block Diwas and Thana Diwas as platforms for grievance redressal and public outreach.

The Lieutenant Governor also reviewed preparedness for upcoming major religious events, including the Shri Amarnathji Yatra and Muharram, directing departments to ensure adequate arrangements for safety, convenience and smooth conduct of the events.
