Handwara: Students of Government Boys Higher Secondary School Vilgam organised an awareness programme on Wednesday under the Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyan, alongside a peace campaign to mark Pahalgam Martyrs’ Day.

The initiative was supported by social activists Altaf Bhat and Bilal Ahmad in collaboration with the 12 Maratha Battalion of the Indian Army, Vilgam, which facilitated youth participation and outreach efforts.

Carrying banners and placards, students took part in the campaign, raising slogans against drug abuse and advocating a healthy, drug-free lifestyle. The activity focused on sensitising the public to the harmful effects of substance abuse and encouraging responsible behaviour among the younger generation.

Messages displayed during the programme called for collective action against drugs and emphasised the need for a sustained societal response.

On the occasion, participants also paid tribute to the victims of the Pahalgam attack, observing Pahalgam Martyrs’ Day. Students expressed concern over violence against innocent people and highlighted the importance of peace, brotherhood, and communal harmony.

Speakers, including social activists and Army representatives, underscored the need for coordinated efforts to address drug abuse and promote social stability. They urged students to act as responsible citizens and contribute to awareness initiatives.

The programme concluded with a pledge by participants to work towards a drug-free and peaceful society. Locals appreciated the effort and acknowledged the role of students, activists, and the Army in promoting awareness and unity.
