Baramulla, Apr 24: The Directorate of Archives, Archaeology and Museums, Jammu and Kashmir, has initiated the process to declare Dudran village in Boniyar tehsil of Baramulla as a Heritage Village under the J&K Heritage Conservation and Preservation Act, 2010.
In a communication to the Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, the department highlighted Dudran’s unique identity as Kashmir’s “milk village,” known for its traditional methods of preserving dairy products in underground mud and wooden burrows. The age-old practice helps keep milk, butter, cheese, and curd fresh for days.
The department said the proposal aims to recognize and preserve the village’s distinctive cultural practices, architectural character, and traditional livelihood, while promoting it as a heritage tourism destination.
The district administration has been asked to furnish detailed information, including demographic profile, cultural practices, architectural features, and historical background, along with photographs and recommendations, by May 1, 2026. The proposal is scheduled to be placed before the Executive Committee of the J&K Heritage Preservation and Conservation Authority on May 4.
