Mystery shrouds doctor’s death in Doda

Jammu, Apr 23: The mysterious death of a young doctor from Jammu in Doda district has taken a serious turn, with the bereaved family alleging foul play and rejecting the possibility of an accidental fall, while demanding a fair and thorough investigation.

Dr Prabhjot Chalotra, a resident of the Bahu Fort area in Jammu, was found dead in a gorge in the Gandoh area of Doda on April 20 under suspicious circumstances. His body was handed over to the family a day later.

Family members have expressed strong reservations over the preliminary claims suggesting that the doctor may have slipped into the gorge, asserting that the circumstances surrounding his death indicate a possible conspiracy.

“We do not believe this is an accidental fall. The condition in which the body was found raises serious concerns,” a family member said, calling for a high-level probe.

In a video statement circulated on social media, the deceased’s sister Urmila pointed to several inconsistencies, stating, “The incident does not appear to be a simple case of slipping from a cliff.” She urged authorities to investigate all possible angles.

She questioned the nature of injuries, claiming that despite reports of a fall from a 300-foot cliff, her brother reportedly sustained only a head injury, with no major fractures or bodily injuries.

“Officials said he fell from a height of 300 feet.

How is it possible that there are no fractures or multiple injuries? Also, we were told locals helped recover the body, but there is not a single photo or video of the rescue,” she said.

The family further alleged that both of the deceased’s phones had been formatted and his social media accounts deactivated, raising additional suspicion.

They have appealed to the LG administration and police Department for a transparent investigation to uncover the truth at the earliest.

Meanwhile, police in Gandoh have initiated an inquiry into the incident and have reportedly detained a person for questioning.

However, officials have not issued any detailed statement regarding the individual’s role.

Sources indicated that multiple angles, including the possibility of foul play, were being examined, though no official confirmation had been made so far.
