SRINAGAR: The Drugs Control Department in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district has shut four medical shops for violating drug regulations during an inspection drive conducted across several parts of the district.

Officials said nearly 15 medical establishments in Lazibal, Sarnal, Cheeni Chowk, Sirgufwara and adjoining areas were inspected to ensure compliance with the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940, and to check misuse of prescription medicines with addiction potential.

During the drive, officials scrutinised records related to prescription drugs to detect possible diversion or misuse. Four establishments found non-compliant were closed on the spot under Section 22(d) of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act.

The shops closed include Kanroo Pharmacy at Lazibal, ALL MS Medicate and Murad Medicate on Sarnal KP Road, and Atif Medical Shop at Cheeni Chowk, Anantnag.

The crackdown, officials said, was part of efforts to enforce regulatory norms and safeguard public health by ensuring safe and quality medicines remain available to consumers.

Reaffirming a zero-tolerance approach towards violations, the department warned of strict action against those found compromising public health or flouting drug control regulations.

Officials said similar inspection and enforcement drives would continue across the district to curb irregularities and strengthen monitoring of pharmaceutical establishments.
